Highway Construction is currently undertaking the reconstruction and widening of 4.57km of Great Northern Highway in the semi-urban Upper Swan area of Perth. The project is to be conducted in two sections. Section 2 (West Swan Road to Apple Street) will commence in late January 2008 and be completed in June 2008. Section 1B (Haddrill Road to West Swan Road) will commence in October 2008 and be completed in May 2009.
In some areas the road will be realigned to provide a safer and improved journey for the general public and the transport industry. Off-road drainage and the construction of culverts will allow improved water flow around the works. Works will also comprise the construction of medians and traffic islands, and the construction of dual use paths and cycle paths. Landscaping of the area will take place once each section has been completed.
- Construction of two special Spill Capture Units at either end of Swan River Bridge.
- Detailed staged construction with 70 adjacent access roads / driveways.
- Tie into a rail crossing.
- The construction of high strength pavements
