Highway Construction personnel direct managed the works on behalf of Best Roads Group as part of the Minor Improvement Works under TNC 8/99. Highway Construction is a 1/3rd owner of Best Roads Group.
The works involved modifications to the section of West Coast Highway between and including modifications to the intersections of West Coast Highway / Scarborough Beach Road and West Coast Highway / Manning Street. The works included the following:
- Widening and narrowing of West Coast Highway and Scarborough Beach Road to improve traffic flow
- Construction of an additional right turn lane from Scarborough Beach Road westbound into West Coast Highway northbound.
- Traffic Signal installation.
- Median widening and realignment.
- Removal of existing triangular corner islands
- Construction of 1.5m on-road cycle lanes with installation of green coloured cyclist “head starts” at intersection of Scarborough Beach Road and West Coast Highway
- Modification of verges
- Reconstruction and realignment of pedestrian pathways and paving
- Kerbing, signage, linemarking and associated drainage works.
- Relocation of street lighting posts
- Complex traffic management requirements for both pedestrians and vehicles in the busy area
- Ensuring continued safe beach access for vehicles and pedestrians.
- Adjustment to drainage design
- Underground services conflicts and relocations
- Requirement to complete works before Christmas Holiday.
