Safety, Quality & Environmental Policies
Excellence stems from integrating systems.
Highway Construction believes that engineering excellence can only be achieved by having the right systems in place. This explains why our Safety, Quality, and Environmental management systems are third party accredited by Bureau Veritas Quality International (BVQI) and why they are fully integrated into all projects and company operations.
Highway Construction is committed to providing our customers, the community and all other stakeholders with sound management systems to achieve a high quality finished product through cost-effective, safe, and sustainable means.
Audited safety plans and procedures reflect their importance.
Safety is critical to our company. That is why we implement project specific Occupational Health and Safety management plans. These are regularly audited, both internally and externally, and refined where necessary. We recognise the increased safety risks and hazards for workers in the civil construction industry. Our safety control measures are thoroughly and clearly communicated to all employees, subcontractors, and visitors on every project site, big and small.
We also acknowledge that achieving a high standard of occupational health and safety involves shared responsibilities and teamwork.
Accordingly, the Company is committed to fostering the enthusiastic involvement of every employee, supervisor and manager through consultation, cooperation and participation. This is to ensure that practical solutions to health and safety issues are achieved throughout our workplace.
Highway Construction currently holds third party certification through BVQI to Safety Standard AS/NZS ISO 4801:2001. In addition, Highway Construction is accredited under the Australian Government Building and Construction OHS Accreditation Scheme. This accreditation allows us to manage road and bridge construction projects that have substantial federal funding, and further reinforces our commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards.
Strict quality means projects are completed on time, within budget and to specification.
Our aim is to provide the expertise, experience and capability to complete projects for both Government and private clients on time, within budget and to specification. We recognise that a complete commitment to quality from beginning to end is the key to meeting this objective. We have therefore established a quality management system that is certified by BVQI to AS/NZS ISO 9001:2000.
We provide the highest quality civil engineering processes using conforming construction materials and products. All of our products undergo thorough inspections and testing by accredited laboratories to ensure they conform to Australian standards.
To this end, trained and experienced systems management representatives constantly undertake internal audits. A policy of continuous improvement has led us to implement new processes and controls to improve our operations.
Our ‘reduce and reuse’ policy protects the environment.
At a time of heightened global concern about the environment, we aim to provide industry leadership in sustainable development and in minimising our carbon footprint. Highway Construction has a ‘reduce and reuse’ approach to civil works to prevent detrimental environmental impacts. We also engage a specialist environmental services company to provide land care and environmental rehabilitation on all our projects.
All of our operations are certified by BVQI to AS/NZS ISO 14001:2004. We aim to construct roads that enhance the experience of our country’s unique natural surroundings and do not damage the environment.
